The new buses, which are part of a $150 million order from Prevost, a Canadian subsidiary of Volvo, began hitting city streets in December 2020, but quickly encountered resistance from riders who suffered from the squeeze. Golden had previously organized a petition drive calling on the MTA to restore weekend express bus service on the X28.After being hit with commuter complaints about the lack of leg room on the latest MTA express buses, the transit agency has agreed to adjust seat configurations on more than 250 of its newest coaches by reverting to a more spacious layout used by models assembled between 20. The MTA eliminated weekend service on the X28 in 2010 as a cost cutting measure.Įlected officials in Bay Ridge, Coney Island and other neighborhoods along the express bus route pushed hard for the MTA to restore the service to accommodate weekend travelers. The bus will operate every 30 to 40 minutes on Saturday and every 30 to 60 minutes Sunday. For a trip back to Brooklyn, the bus runs from 8:30 a.m. On Sundays, riders can catch a Manhattan-bound bus from 7:00 a.m. and Brooklyn-bound buses operate from 7:30 a.m. Under the new Saturday schedule, Manhattan-bound X28 buses run from 6 a.m.
